I hate books that leave the reader in a cliffhanger. War strategies and scenes have been over-simplified and that makes war scenes (at least the final big one) unrealistic. Some sections just drag on without much action or suspense. What I did not like in this book: The book should have been at least 30% shorter. I applaud the author for getting the message across very effectively without boring me. Achieving that with adult readers into their 30s is a huge feat. And we feel we have traveled and learned along with Shiva, during the journey. The best thing about the book, I feel, is the solid philosophy. Result? I bought the second book and have read 50 pages already! Strategically, the author has not revealed those crucial points in the first book. I was anxious to know who was behind this, who was the traitor, etc. I also like the way the story developedwith right amounts of twists and suspense. Historical India has been constructed well. The author takes us into a believable journey into a period that is so far back – 1900 A.D., and makes us believe these events may have actually happened. Those two epics have been done to death, I am not sure why Amish chose to rewrite it for the millionth time with his current series!Īlthough character development is not excellent, it’s still good. What I liked about the book: A fresh Mythological subject that is NOT Ramayana or Mahabharata. I think this was one of the best selling books in India back when it was launched, that too by a debut author. I finally bought the audio book version from Flipkart. From the day I listened to Amish at the Hindu Lit for Life event I wanted to read this book. I like historical fiction books that have been written after exhaustive research. I definitely recommend this book if you're a mythological fan, don't miss out on this book.Immortals of Meluha by Amish Tripathi is the first book of the Shiva Trilogy series published by Westland Books.īook Review in one line: I loved the book, but it could have been shorter/tighter. Amish Tripathi creates a world of fantasy in his debut book, including corruption, caste system, unnecessary laws, and enters the readers' hearts. The narrations are explicit, as well as the language. Whether it is a war sequence or a simple conversation, Amish's writing hooked the readers, but I feel there is a lack of suspense. Every character is described well and in an informative manner. The story is a perfect blend of modern-day technologies and Hindu mythological legends. The feeling of vengeance will lead him to his journey, but his destination is far away. The importance of knowing another person's side is crucial. Shiva leads the army, but what will happen when the destroyer of evil realizes his mistakes. The growing terrorist attacks by Nagas and Chandravanshis will lead the Meluha's emperor Daksha to declare war.
They are ready to die for their Neelkanth. For Shiva, everything is overwhelming, and the expectations of Suryavanshis are too much for him, but his friends helped him see the truth. Shiva falls in love with Sati, the daughter of emperor Daksha, which leads him to break the age-old traditions of Vikrama people (who are punished in this birth for the sins of their previous birth). His past somehow stops him from acknowledging his reality. Shiva is destined to be that person, to become the Neelkanth, but he will not believe in prophecies or think that he is the right person to do the job. The Meluhans are looking for someone who will become their messiah and save them from their arch enemies Chandravanshis.
